Plot of 81.55 ares of vines over 75 years old, half of which are added to 1/4 of 20-year-old vines. The rest of the plot was recently replanted (2010) and will not be included in the cuvée for several years. The location is ideal, due east, protected from the cold winds that come down from the mountain. The soil is complex, composed of oolitic limestones (white ooliths) and quartz limestones. The plot is adjacent to the Petits-Musigny (parcel classified as AOC Grand Cru Musigny) and was classified as a Tête de cru before the phylloxera crisis. It should have been classified as a Grand Cru today if the necessary administrative procedures at the time had been carried out. The wine always has an extra dimension, some consider it to be the head of the cuvée of the cellar. The Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru La Combe d’Orveau offers a haughty profile combining great finesse of expression and mineral depth, all in verticality, in the martial spirit of the neighbouring Musigny. It requires a long opening time to deliver its bewitching character, its wide aromatic palette (pomegranate, spice, citrus, flowers, etc.) and its textural dynamics.
