96-99/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous : “A wine of total finesse, the 2016 Pavie Macquin is also one of the most riveting wines of the vintage. Silky and supple on the palate, with no hard edges and exceptional balance, it takes over all the senses and never lets up. The flavors are bright, precise and beautifully nuanced. Above all else, Pavie Macquin is a wine of elegance, and that is exactly what comes through in the 2016. The wine plays in the dimensions of bright, floral-infused, red-toned fruits, silky tannins and length more than pure power or breadth. The 2016 is a stunningly beautiful bottle of wine and one of the finest reds of the year - it's as simple as that. In 2016, Nicolas Thienpont opted for long macerations of around four weeks in a combination of cement and oak. Tasted three times.”

97-98/100 James Suckling : “This is a really fantastic PM! The licorice, fresh mushroom, sous bois and stone character is so exciting. It’s full and very layered with exceptional depth and length. Compressed and focused. Pure silk.”

98-100/100 Jeff Lewe, The Wine Cellar Insider : “You have to like your grapes poured over a rock quarry to get this wine, but I love it. The color of Homer’s wine dark sea with levels of extract that coat your palate, teeth and gums. There is something special here you can easily sense, with crushed velvet textures and the perfect combination of decadence and refined elegance. Even though this is incredibly powerful, everything is in harmony. The pure fruits linger, build and expand; this is a unique textural experience. The wine was produced from blending 82% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Merlot was harvested October 7 to October 21, the Cabernet Franc, October 17 to October 20 and the Cabernet Sauvignon on October 20. The wine reached 14.4% alcohol with a pH of 3.35.”

96/100 Jean-Marc Quarin : “The best ever. Couleur sombre, intense, belle, pourpre et violine. Nez moyennement aromatique et pour l’instant encore discret. Bouche ample à l’attaque, suave au développement, particulièrement fruitée et même complexe au milieu. Le vin puissant fond au palais et vient s’achever long, savoureux sur un corps gras, avec beaucoup de saveur. Superbe ! Degré d’alcool : 14.5º (dans la norme), pH : 3.38 (moyenne basse). Assemblage : 82 % merlot, 16 % cabernet franc, 2 % cabernet sauvignon.”
