La Grande Année is the prestige cuvée of the Bollinger house. Made only in the best years, from 17 grands and premiers crus. In 1999, the harvest took place between 14 and 29 September. Once in the cellar, fermentation takes place in small oak barrels, allowing an exchange between the wine and the air, which develops the aromatic character of the wine and gives it a great longevity (each cru is vinified separately).
For maturation in the cellar (a minimum of 6 years for the big year), Bollinger uses a cork stopper, to preserve the freshness of the wine. The disgorging will be done “on the fly”.
It is a wine of great complexity, and with significant ageing potential. It is in our best interest to let it age for a few years in the cellar.
